With
so many photographers offering wedding coverage these days -
especially as good cameras are now so affordable, it's vitally
important that you find the right photographer for your wedding.
Here are a list of questions you should ask your prospective
photographer, which any worth their salt will be more than happy to
answer!
How long have you been shooting
weddings?
Although I am in my third year of photographing weddings
professionally, I have been a music
& press photographer for five years now with my work regularly published in
newspapers and magazines worldwide.
You only have a few photos on your
website, can I see a whole wedding?
Of
course. It's very easy to select the best of the best for a
portfolio, but you should always ask to see a whole days coverage to
ensure that the quality and consistency holds up.
Can I speak to other brides for
references?
I
would encourage it. All of my clients are happy to speak honestly
and with their permission, I will be more than happy to pass on
contact details.
Are you insured?
Absolutely. No serious photographer will be without professional
indemnity and public liability insurance. You need to be sure that
if the unthinkable happens and something does go wrong, that you and
your guests have legal protection. I will supply documents upon
request.
How many photos will I get?
It is
impossible to say. I am
brutal with my editing. Any shot that I am not happy with, I ditch.
in 2011 - I have delivered around 300 photos per wedding but cannot
guarantee any number.
What do I get on a photo CD?
You
get all of the edited photos, hi res, resized and ready to print at 9x6
inches
Are the images copyright free like
other photographers I have seen?
This
is getting to be quite a popular question! There is no such thing as
copyright free. The creator of a piece of work always holds
copyright, no matter what you may read elsewhere. Photographers that
offer copyright free images give themselves away as people who know
very little about the law or business. It means nothing! Does this
mean that you cannot reproduce the images? Of course not. Included
in the price of my service is a license to reproduce the images for
personal use i.e. for
prints for family & friends and use on personal websites such
as Facebook etc.
What
you cannot do is use them for commercial gain, i.e. by selling them
in any way. This is standard practice with all
professional photographers. Most of you
will only want to go as far as to put them on Facebook or prints for
family and friends anyway, so
it's all good.
When will you get to the bride's place?
In my
experience, I would suggest that the best time for me to arrive
would be when you are getting your makeup done. That way you can
enjoy time on the morning without the camera there and the shots of
applying makeup are more flattering than pictures of you having your
hair tugged about in your pyjamas!
How late will you stay?
I will
stay up to the first dance or 9pm, whichever is sooner. I can stay
longer, though there is a £25 per hour surcharge applicable, worked
out in half hour units. I never used to do this, but I have been to
a couple of weddings now where the first dance didn't start until
way after 9pm, and as I am sure you will appreciate, any more than a
twelve hour day is very hard work and I have a family I would like
to stay in touch with too!
Do you travel nationwide?
I can
and do travel nationally. Though please be advised though, that
anywhere more than 100 miles of Norwich incurs a £50 fee per every
100 miles over the initial 100 for extra travel costs
and overnight accommodation.
I'm
sure there are many more questions you have - and I am more than
happy to answer them, just give me a call or drop me an email.
